BTO News

Magazine redesign, customer publishing, commissioning, art direction & design

BTO News is the membership magazine for the British Trust for Ornithology. In 2016, I was asked to redesign the magazine portfolio, in line with editorial improvements. Working within existing brand guidelines, I refreshed the design to make it more appealing to a younger demographic, without alienating long-term members. The magazine remains a journal of record, containing hard science alongside inspiring and thought-provoking human stories.

“I've been working with Tina since 2016, when she helped redesign and re-imagine BTO News, the membership magazine of the British Trust for Ornithology (which I edit), making it a far better product than it was before. There was an immediate positive response to Tina's work from the readers, and I've continued to receive frequent complimentary feedback since on the beautiful and engaging design of the magazine…”

“… Tina has always been brilliant to work with. She makes an effort to really understand every article that I send her way, and always comes up with excellent ideas for how to convey even the most complex scientific messages. She has been instrumental in maintaining the quality and contemporary feel of the magazine, and is generally a fun, friendly and professional person. I feel very fortunate to work with her.”
