The Wild Dyer

Book design and art direction

Abigail Booth is one half of Forest + Found, a creative practice producing works from natural materials and using traditional skills. The Wild Dyer is a thoughtful and thorough look at natural dying, with seasonal pigments and stitched projects.

This project is a real favourite of mine. As with The Urban Woodsman, it involved bringing a super-talented team of creative people together around Abigail and Max’s kitchen table, developing ideas over coffee and cake.

Working with Jeska and Dean made my job very easy. They worked collaboratively with Abigail throughout the year, to capture her processes through the seasons. Only very light art direction was needed, to ensure the images fulfil the technical requirements of the design, format and multi-lingual print processes.

I worked closely with Abigail to make sure the design language paired with her own ideas as an artist.

“I owe a huge thanks to Tina, the designer, for being the easiest and most laid back person to work with. Your ability to understand exactly where I am coming from and determination to get it right has been a dream.”
